New Shareholder: Marian Saksena

Topic: What's New at WB&D

Marian is originally from Evanston, IL. She read an article about the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in high school touting the Twin Cities' civic culture, 2nd highest spending per capita on theatre in the Country, many lakes, green space, good arts and culture, and down to earth people that stuck in her head. At college in Iowa, Marian met other students from Minneapolis and learned that true to the article, they were down to earth and espoused the many positive aspects of living in the Twin Cities' Marian had read about. Therefore Marian secured a job in Minneapolis after college. She worked as a Child Advocate for Cornerstone Advocacy Services and as a Crisis Care Provider at the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery. Her work at these organizations inspired Marian to go to law school so that she could one day impact the lives of children through the law. Marian is fortunate to have identified a practice area she was interested in early on, Juvenile and Family Law. Marian's law school course work and clerkships reaffirmed her interest in advocating for children and families through the law.

Marian first learned about Walling, Berg & Debele, P.A. (then called Walling & Berg, P.A.) while in law school, by the Firm's positive reputation. She heard Wright Walling and later, Gary Debele, speak at to the Child Advocacy and Family Law Group at the U of M Law School. Marian got to know Gary Debele better through her employment at Children's Law Center of Minnesota ("CLC"). After clerking for Children's Law Center of Minnesota early in law school, Marian also worked there as a staff attorney for 3+ years after becoming a lawyer. Gary Debele was an early volunteer attorney for CLC and they both served on the Supreme Court Juvenile Protection Rules Committee. Ultimately the timing was right and Marian joined Walling, Berg & Debele as an Associate Attorney five years ago. Marian became a shareholder of the Firm January 1, 2009.

Marian's work focuses on family law issues including divorce, paternity, modifications, and third party custody issues, as well as juvenile law cases including child protection, termination of parental rights, and adoption issues. Having practiced law for ten years, Marian informally mentors law students, law clerks, and other Associates within our Firm, such as myself. Marian's drive, enthusiasm, intelligence and compassion make her an excellent attorney and role model.
